Black Squirrel Radio is a college radio station located on the campus of Kent State University. Our office and studio are located on the 3rd floor of the Music and Speech Building.
Black Squirrel Radio is completely run by Kent State students. The management of the station is handled by the General Manager and the 12 members on the Board of Directors.
Over the years, Black Squirrel Radio has evolved into mainly an internet radio station. You can listen to Black Squirrel Radio streamed off of our website or you can hear us in the dorms on channel 4 or on Time Warner Cable Channel 17 in Portage County.
We offer a wide variety of content in our programming. Our main formats of music are: Urban, Rock and Local Music. We also have Specialty Shows which range from Country to Broadway Tunes to Heavy Metal. Included in our programming is Black Squirrel Radio News which is run by the News Director and News Team. The news can be heard quarter till and quarter past the hour.
All of our DJs, News Team, and Promotions Team members are unpaid volunteers. These students use Black Squirrel Radio as a hands-on enhancement to their learning experience at Kent State. Auditions for all volunteer positions are held at the beginning of each semester. Positions are open to all Kent State students.
I would like to thank you for listening to Black Squirrel Radio and enjoy!
Micah Manus
