How can I record Black Squirrel Radio?
You can download free audio editing software and set it to record your computer's Stereo Mix or Wave Out, rather than your microphone. We recommend trying Audacity or Free Hi-Q Recorder.
Do you podcast?
Yes. Check out our Podcast section, or KentNewsNet for our daily news broadcasts. We will also podcast some of our talk shows this semester, so check back for those!

When are DJs in the studio?
DJs are in the studio from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, with the exception of KSU's holiday breaks. You may occasionally catch a DJ after these hours as well – it all depends on whether or not someone is pulling an all-nighter.

Our DJs have the freedom to choose what music goes on air. We have a large database of songs they can pick from, compiled by our music staff. Some DJs are allowed to bring in their own CDs as well.
How can I get my band played on BSR?
You can submit a CD to our music staff for review, and if they like it, they'll make it available to our DJs. More information.
What kind of music does BSR play?
Our format is predominantly made up of Urban, Rock, and Local music. We also have a lot of great talk shows! Check out the Programming Guide to see what we play and when.
Do you take requests?
Yes, as long as there is a DJ in the studio. You can make requests by calling the request line at (330) 672-7700 or IM the current DJ at BSRKent on AIM. As long as the song fits the show format and is in our library, we can play it for you.
I heard a song I really liked, can I find out what it is?
If you're quick about it, you can ask the DJ in the studio what it was by calling the request line at (330) 672-7700 or IMing them at BSRKent on AIM. Otherwise, I would suggest putting some of the lyrics into Google or picking the brain of our

Can BSR help me publicize my event/service?
Yes! Depending on the event/service, we can arrange to have an advertisement or a PSA put into rotation. Find out more.
Can I advertise with BSR?
We would love that!
Why is your mascot named Url instead of Earl?
Three reasons: First, "URL" stands for Urban, Rock, and Local– the three types of music that make up our format. Second, "URL" stands for Uniform Resource Locator (or more commonly known as a Web site address). Because we are a predominantly online station, it makes sense. Third, it rhymes with Squirrel!
How long have you been around?
Radio at KSU's lineage can be traced back to the 1930s. It has been through many name changes and several studios over the years. The name was changed to Black Squirrel Radio in 2005. We moved into a new studio in Franklin Hall in Fall of 2007.
Where are you located?
We are on the second floor of Franklin Hall on the Northwest side of Kent State University's campus.
Is anyone even listening?
Of course! We have listeners in 90 countries all over the world. While most of our listeners come from Ohio, we have many listeners all over the States and in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Russia to name a few.
Are you affiliated with WKSU?
Nope!
Why aren't you called WKSR anymore?
There was a legal conflict with another WKSR, a station in Tennessee, in 2005.
