BSR Board of Directors for Fall 2010
Black Squirrel Radio

Erin Wehrenberg | General Manager

Hello, world. My name is Erin Wehrenberg, and I am the General Manager for this beautiful baby known as Black Squirrel Radio. I came to the station fall 2008 with the hopes of becoming an on-air DJ that would showcase local bands. My dreams came true, and, after serving as the Program Director for BSR for the past year, I have now become General Manager.

Let’s get one thing straight: I love music. I love music in its most pure and honest forms. College radio lets artists and fans of these artists continue to exist. This is what I want to promote, and here at Black Squirrel Radio, we continue to do just that. Along with my other, wonderful directors, we are here to keep BSR as up to date and hip and on top of things as we can.

Since we have over one hundred volunteer DJs, the diversity our station offers is like none other. If you are looking to find music that is new to you, look no further. My music collection has grown since working at BSR, and I know it will continue to grow during my time as General Manager.

Thank you for winding up at Black Squirrel Radio, whether it is your first time here or your thousandth time here. I will gladly chat music or anything else BSR related with you, if you would like. Please feel free to hit us up, either via IM or phone. Spread love, and good music.

  Ellen Kirtner | Program Director

I'm Ellen, the program director.  I'll be putting the fall schedule together and making sure all our lovely DJs have smooth-running shows this semester. I'm a third year public relations major here at Kent with a minor in entrepreneurship. I could probably live on iced coffee alone, and I'm really great at explaining all the reasons why Saves the Day's "Through Being Cool" is the best record of all time.  I also think that vinyl is the best.  If you'd like to hear more of my music-related ramblings, follow me on Twitter-- @ellenkirtner!

eddie!

Eddie Kilroy | Sports Director

I’m Eddie, and I am the Sports Director of BSR. My duties include 4 main things: host a sports radio show, send out the sports team members to do reports, coordinate all the remote sports broadcasts for the station, and keep Gabz and all the Directors informed about what we’re doing.

When it comes to careers, I have 3 missions in life: have a sports talk radio show, coach a football team to a championship, and host the Price is Right (whatever comes first would be great).

I’m a sophomore public communication major at Kent State University. I hope to be a successful broadcaster one day. I’ve been part of the radio station for 4 semesters now and it’s been nothing short of fantastic. Outside of running the sports team, I do play-by-play and color-commentating for the basketball and football seasons. I also do sports anchoring for TV2, and I also like to spend my free time hanging out with friends and eating food.

  Lucas Hall | Tech Director

I'm the Tech Director. I make sure everything at the BSR station works. I am the party responsable for training DJs on the equipment at the radio station. I can easily say I am addicted to technology, I would say I am a tweeter, googlenaut, audiophile, hobbiest linux user, I belong to the cult that is Apple, and I consider myself fluent in social media.

If you asked me my favorite band, I'd laugh in your face. I believe music is one of the things that matters most in life, or makes life matter- how ever you want to look at it. I think someone who truly loves music, not listening, but music in all aspects is someone truly rare. I feel like with the love for music comes a burden, because just as with love for a person, the ability for it to manipulate your emotions are incredibly more susceptible. A best friend of mine said, "It only matters if you make it matter." But in the instance of music I think it doesn't hold true, music makes itself matter to you.

I hail from a paper town. I would say I am becoming less and less of a paper boy as these years pass by, but I am still looking for a way out of this labyrinth. I refuse to believe vinyl is dead. Not video, but bad taste, killed the radio star.

  Todd Williams | Event Coordinator

Hey I'm Todd and I'm the Events Coordinator. I help get approval for and organize events as well as get the station free concert tickets to give out on air.

I'm into dancing, glow sticks, sequins, 12 year old boy humor, cereal and zombie movies. My fav musicians are Michael Jackson, Andre 3000, Avey Tare (Animal Collective), Elliott Smith and Bradford Cox (Deerhunter). Takk by Sigur Ros is definitely my favorite album ever....I'm pretty sure they play it on the elevator up to heaven once you die. Nearly all of the best moments in my life have been tied to music--from the dance party in the rain at Relay For Life last year (props to Ledion for playing the perfect songs) to dancing myself into a coma at a Sleigh Bells concert with my mom! Oh and I'm constantly trying to find new jams, so you should tell me some stuff you're into.

Rian Roland | Mobile DJ Director

I'm the Mobile DJ Director at Black Squirrel Radio. I pump events and parties to the brim with the most epic music you can imagine. Email me if you require my services.

  Daniel McKenna | Marketing Director

My name is Daniel McKenna and I’m the Marketing Director. I have been with the radio for a year now. My job around the station is to run the BSR Street Team and make sure you know what’s going on. I also run all of the social networks for the station. So I’m behind all of the Facebook statuses, Myspace bulletins, and Tweets for Black Squirrel Radio!

Outside of BSR I have an unhealthy addiction to fashion, photography, and reality television. I am a junior Fashion Merchandising major and have fun with photography. I love being the life of the party and just living for the moment. I also enjoy all kinds of music, especially those guilty pleasure pop songs you hate to love.

Url just loves attention, and I plan on helping him get the most exposure this semester!

  Gabz Ciofani | Music Director

Here is my bio for BSR: Gabz Ciofani is BSR's Music Director and is responsible for continuously bringing hot jams onto the airwaves of Black Squirrel Radio. This is her 4th year working at the radio station and will be her last semester at Kent State. She solo-hosts her own show "The Comfort Zone", which is in it's MOST COMFORTABLE SEASON EVER on Wednesdays from 4-6pm. Gabz can't wait to travel to the CMJ Music Marathon to represent BSR in NYC this upcoming fall.

Dan Meaney | Sales Director

I'm the BSR sales representative. Basically, I try to rake in all the chedd'a I can to keep the station in the black. I love Cleveland sports especially the Browns. I have been at Kent for four years and I am a justice studies major. I had a wicked awesome afro about 2 months ago but cut it all off :( I like all types of music (even country) and am eager to work with the BSR team.

UNFILLED | Production Director

This position is unfilled for this semester at BSR! Contact us for an application!

Amber Wade | Entertainment Coordinator

I am the entertainment coordinator here at Black Squirrel Radio. I make sure the website is updated with super rad content like interviews, album and show reviews and upcoming events. I'm also here to help get awesome guests in the studio.

I am a junior magazine journalism major. I'm a fan of vinyl, zombies, books and of course, music. You can listen to me being awkward every week with Ellen Kirtner on Fangirl Fridays!

  Betz Rund | News Director

Howdy Everyone! Betz is the name and news directing is my game this semester.  I am a senior magazine journalism major with a minor in political science.  I am super excited to be news director, I’ve had a reporter’s notebook in my hand since I was in high school.  I was a writer on my school’s newspaper as well as the news and features editor.  I also did a lot of broadcast and production work.  I’ve been a reporter for the Daily Kent Stater for the last four years, covering everything from Daylight Savings time, to Education, Health and Human Services to a murder trial.  I’ve been a news anchor with BSR almost as long.  I absolutely love everything about radio!  After bouncing around I think I’ve finally found my calling in journalism!!  Let’s see, what other interesting things can I share?  I lived in Walt Disney World for seven months in 2009.  I did an internship there as a photographer and they decided to keep me on as a seasonal cast member!  I love hanging out with friends, going on adventures and tend to talk in movie quotes ( I am a bona fide move geek!)

  Bridget Elchert | Web Director

Hey Guys! I'm Bridget, the Web Director for BSR. I'm a Junior Visual Communication Design major here at Kent State and I'm a super nerd when it comes to things like coding, music and Star Wars so that's how I ended up here!

This semester we're looking into making it easier for you to do all the great things you love to do here at blacksquirrelradio.com whether that be listen to the rad music, creep on our DJs via the cam or read the super awesome articles posted here.  It's my job to do this for you as well as keep the site up and running!

Feel free to e-mail me any suggestions or questions that you may have about the site!
