Music

Ellen Kirtner, Amber Wade | Black Squirrel Radio Music

Black Squirrel Radio caught up with Mike Kitlas, Slade Echeverria and Adam Juwig from Phoenix-based pop-rock band Anarbor during their run on Vans Warped Tour.  The band is playing the entire tour on the Alternative Press/Advent Clothing Stage. Anarbor dropped their debut full length, The Words You Don’t Swallow, this past April on Hopeless Records. This is Anarbor’s first Warped Tour run, and they say it has been “a dream come true.” They said they have enjoyed checking out bands like Motion City Soundtrack, All-American Rejects, Alkaline Trio and Sum 41 each day on the tour. The band recommends checking out the Keep-a-Breast and Invisible Children while you're perusing the charity tents on Warped. More information on the band is available at www.anarbor.net.

Interview: Closure In Moscow
Music

Ellen Kirtner | Black Squirrel Radio Music

“We are Closure in Moscow, and we are from the planet earth,” Closure in Moscow’s lead singer Chris De Cinque said as he introduced their set Thursday on the Ernie Ball Stage of Warped Tour 2010. Closure in Moscow, a progressive rock band from Australia signed to Equal Vision Records, is currently on their first Warped Tour run.  Black Squirrel Radio caught up with the band’s guitarist and singer Mansur Zennelli to get the details on the band’s sound and upcoming plans. Zennelli likens Closure in Moscow to “satanic death metal meets Teletubbies,” while his bandmate, drummer Beau McKee, mentions comparisons made to The Mars Volta. The band released their debut album, First Temple, May of last year, and Zennelli said it “encompasses who we are and what we are.”  The band also has an EP, The Penance and the Patience, under their belt. The band’s immediate touring plans include an extensive trip to Japan, but it is possible we will see them back in the states sometime in the near future.

Continue for audio from our conversation with Mansur Zennelli and pictures from their Warped set, and check out www.closureinmoscow.com for more information about the band.

Interview: VersaEmerge
Music

Ellen Kirtner | Black Squirrel Radio Music

VersaEmerge is a Florida-based band on its second Warped Tour run.  After spending summer 2009 on the Ernie Ball stage, lead vocalist Sierra Kusterbeck said they’ve been seeing much bigger crowds this year on the Glamour Kills stage. VersaEmerge fans, nicknamed “vultures,” have been snagging the band’s new merch item, feathers to be worn in the hair, so fast the band can’t keep the booth stocked.  The band says they will have more soon, though! Kusterbeck says VersaEmerge’s sound is “alternative rock, but cinematic at the same time.” The band recently released its first full-length, Fixed at Zero, on Fueled by Ramen.  More information is available on the band’s interactive site for the record, fixedatzero.com, or through their social networking sites.  Future touring plans for the band are in the works.

Listen below for some of Black Squirrel Radio’s conversation with Sierra and to check out some photos of the band's set.

Review: Gold Motel - "Summer House"
Album Reviews

Ellen Kirtner | Black Squirrel Radio Music

Gold Motel’s aptly titled “Summer House” (self-released) is a great pop record from start to finish, featuring retro-laced jams filled to the brim with rich vocals and bouncing melodies.   Perfect for a night drive with the windows down or a refreshing afternoon at the beach, “Summer House” has a solid chance of becoming the go-to summertime record for pop-lovers and indie elitists alike.
